My name is Jonathan Adams (They/Them), and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW in New York State. Additionally, I am currently a DOE certified school social worker in New York. Originally, I am from Tacoma, Washington, where I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Social Work from Pacific Lutheran University. Immediately after, I obtained my Master of Social Work and a certificate in Human Services Management from the University of Southern California.
Before graduate school, I assisted clients in a financial vocational rehabilitation organization focusing on providing access to SNAP benefits for individuals and families struggling with food insecurities. I have co-produced an award-winning university campaign called LISTEN. LISTEN was an opportunity as a therapist to interview various members of the community to discuss conversations of whiteness, mattering, and belonging. Using a community centered model with a multi-media teaching platform provided a forum for other schools and organizations to transform their own communities with the LISTEN Campaign. After graduation, as a Community Engagement Manager at Pride Foundation I provided opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community. I participated in the repeal of the anti-trans initiative, Proposition 1 in Alaska and aided in furthering the work for racial equity and anti-oppression. It was a blessing to support LGBTQIA+ scholars and LGBTQIA+ organizations that needed financial, education, and community connections in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho). Moving to the east coast I worked as a social worker to provide vocational rehabilitation to youth ages between 17 – 26 in re-entering the workforce to close the opportunity divide in that area specifically with majority adolescents of BIPOC communities.
Over the past years I have been living in New York working as a middle and high school social worker. My passion is providing services to communities that identify like myself and who do not have access to clinicians that are Non-binary, Black, and Queer. I am specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, workplace issues, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Goal-Oriented Therapy. Depending on the treatment needed we will adjust, change, and add to the needs you may have.
This is a collaborative journey of healing, and we will navigate your needs as they come. I am passionate about continuing to learn about how best to continue to assist anyone I am working with. I am thankful for the opportunity to hear your story, your journey, and helping you reach the goals you want in your life.
Therapy is a transformative process, and I am glad you are taking the opportunity to start your journey.
