James McManus, LMSW (He/Him)

My name is James McManus (he/him) and I am a LMSW in New York State. I attended SUNY Purchase and received my Bachelor of Arts in Literature, and Gender Studies. 

After receiving my bachelor's degree, I worked at school for children on the autism spectrum, before moving into child welfare for a short time, and then really planting roots at Housing Works, doing case management for two and a half years. During that time, I obtained my Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University.

My most recent experiences includes providing short-term crisis counseling for LGBTQIA+ and HIV-affected survivors of violence. This is fulfilling work for me.

My approach to therapy is informed by the Gestalt modality. I will orient you to the present while simultaneously addressing the unfinished business of the past. 

Growing up, I did not see any people like me—especially in the role of a therapist. Now, I bring my full self into the work that I do. I am a gay, transgender man and it is my pleasure to work with other community members.

It is my honor and privilege to get to share time and space with you. I look forward to starting this journey.
