Dani Mason (Zie/Zir)
Background:
My name is Dani Mason (Zie/Zir) and I am a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) in NY State. I was born and raised in Long Island, New York. I graduated from Adelphi University with my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Work.
Before and during schooling, I advocated and rallied for GENDA to be passed in NY state by going to Albany for a few years and speaking with representatives of the state. Pride For Youth and other organizations came together to have this bill eventually be passed. They helped folx of all ages have their voices heard. I participated in rallies for more rights for transgender folx in Nassau County as well. These rallies were organized by Gender Equality of NY (GENY) which provides services to trans folx, their peers, and families. I have volunteered at Pride For Youth for a few years as well and participated in programs/activities there. Through my work, I will continue my advocacy for human rights and equity for all.
I have worked with a diverse set of populations throughout my time in the social work field, including working with adolescents, young adults, and adults with a variety of mental illnesses. These include: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders. I have also worked with folx who need a safe space to discuss/navigate their gender identity and sexual orientation. I provide a safe space for all persons without judgment as well as education if asked for. I have additional experience with crisis management and mindfulness.
Over most recent years, I have been working with adults with substance use disorders with co-occurring mental illness/medical issues and folx from ages 5+ in both case management and therapeutic roles. I specialize in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Person-centered approach/Strengths perspective, and Motivational Interviewing. I provide problem-solving and am solution-focused in my work. My aim is to give space while providing necessary guidance to help you achieve your goals for treatment.
